We are feeling quite trapped in our house! Aundrea came down with Hand Foot and Mouth this week. It is very contagious for the 1st seven days, so we've had to keep her home from school to prevent others in her class from getting it. I'm sure there are lots of parents who would be so thankful for us not sharing our germs :)
I'd be lying if I said its been great having Aundrea home! Because she is home because she HAS TO BE, it isn't much fun. Monday she slept until lunch and then played the rest of the day. Since Tuesday she's been dying to go to school and do school work and play with friends. Can you blame her? This isn't like summer vacation. It's more like a feeling of being trapped! It's hard to think of fun things to do knowing you have to do them AT HOME! She has enjoyed playing outside, and we've had many a games of Phase 10 (her favorite game!, and she's very good at it!). I forgot to mention, she feels great! She isn't suffering from a sore throat, fever or things that usually accompany the virus. She has some small blistering on the back of her hands, and that it! None on her throat or feet. We're lucky, at least that's what we keep telling ourselves, it could be worse. The first few days Bradley loved having Aundrea to play with, now I think they're sick of each other, they fight so much! Tomorrow will be the beginning of a new day and they'll be friends again...that's the beauty of being such good buddies.
I've mentioned (complained!) to a few friends that Aundrea is so bored and tonight one of them dropped by (from Provo, so not a literal drop by!) and had a present for Aundrea to enjoy until she can go back to school, it was a Webkinz. A white furry dog that looks like Miss Kitty. She named her 'Emma' and we spent quite a while on the internet tonight getting her all set up for tomorrow!
Now we're hoping that no one else gets this crumby virus at our house. Dallas did say at dinner tonight that she hoped she get sick so she could get a gift...silly girl!

My Favorite Things about Spring by Aundrea
My favorite things about spring are you get to play outside lots. Plants grow. You don't have to wear coats. It's warm outside. Bugs come out. We get to do picnics. Easter comes. You get to wear shorts and t-shirts. Animals come. You get to go camping. It's 'out' days at school. You get to go swimming and run through the sprinklers. You get to catch bugs.

Leaning Tower of...Cheerios!
It's all fun and games until...
All I can say is how happy I am to have a wonderful husband with great EMT skills! If he had not been home I totally would have taken Colter to the hospital!
Colter was playing with one of the girls hair while they were working on a puzzle on the hearth of our fireplace. It sounds like he would pull there hair (like it was a rope) and then fall back onto the floor and laugh. He loved it, his sister did not! She asked him not to do it, but before HE decided to stop and injury insued :( He must have hit his face on the edge of the piano or the corner of the rocking chair! He layed on the floor after it happened and cried all the while blood was pooling on his face. By the time we got to him we thought his eye was bleeding, thank goodness it wasn't! It ended up being a 1/4 inch cut next to his eye. All the kids, including a neighbor friend were a little freaked out by the amount of blood.

(Someone was injured in the pre-shooting of these pictures :()
I am happy to report how brave Colter was! The rest of the kids cried more than he did! He layed on the floor while we fixed him up; mostly confused about all the drama around him.
This morning I need to figure out how to wash the blood out of his hair without getting his steristrip wet, wish me luck!

A dallop of 'Daisy'
Tonight while making dinner (Enchilada's) I opened the lid of the sour cream to find a wonderful quote! Gotta love Daisy Sour Cream! The quote was: The most precious thing one can make is a friend. It made me think of how many people I call friends. I am so glad that 'you' are one of them. By reading my blog you must be someone who knows me and regards me as someone you want to know more about or care about.
Last week I got a card in the mail from a friend (shocking that people still use snail mail! I know!) The letter started out telling me they loved me and they thought I needed to be reminded of that. It went on to express love and appreciation for my friendship. What was interesting to me was that this letter came from someone who doesn't have a lot of time on their hands and nothing to do, just the opposite! They have had some very big changes in their life, stressful changes!, but they were taking the time to reflect on the friendships they had. Again, I thought of how many people I value as my friends. I wish I could mail a letter to every single one of you telling you how much you mean to me, how much strength I receive from you! It doesn't matter to me how many friends I have, but that each one is invaluable, and not one of them could be replaced with another!

Hey! Look Mom!
This morning as I was getting the boys ready to run errands. We were going upstairs to put on our coats (I hate this cold rainy weather!) when Bradley noticed we had left the T.V. on. The show that was on was the BYU Devotional. Bradley said: Hey! Look Mom, its your favorite show.
Hmm, why does he think this? I don't EVER watch the BYU devotionals, but I did just watch General Conference. Maybe that's what he was thinking. :)
I am once again amazed at what my kids think. There is nothing wrong with having the BYU devotionals be my 'favorite' show, perhaps that's where I could make a change.

To you, to you!?
Colter's way of saying 'Happy Birthday' is: to you to you!
The tradition is that I post an entry on my kids birthdays. And here it is 11pm! I have an hour to accomplish it!
Then: April 1st, 2006
Upon waking up in the morning I started noticing that every time the baby (Colter) moved I would leak fluid. I thought it was my bladder. I gave it no thought.
Dave had a large family photo shoot; we pawned our kids off to a babysitter and off we went. I, all along the way would leak a small amount of fluid whenever the baby moved.
Not until the end of the photo shoot did I start thinking that it could be more than my bladder :)
Around 1pm we decided to go to the hospital to have it checked out. No contractions. We made a few stops on our way (we weren't in a hurry). Dave hadn't eaten lunch so we stopped and got him something to eat and ran to the bank to make a deposit.
After being checked at the hospital and discovering that it was my water and not my bladder I was quickly admitted and given my first dose of anit-biotics (as I was strep-b positive) and told to walk around to see if I could get my labor started on my own. Around 2:30 labor starts. Which was very VERY painful. Things progressed very VERY quickly. Around 5:45 I asked (begged) for an epidural, which they tried to talk me out of because they knew that my chart said I had not wanted one! They told me to think about it for 15-20 and then if I still wanted one I could have one. Just before 6pm the doctor started my second dose of anti-biotics and checked me again. I was almost a 10, but he had me push anyways. Colter was born 4 minutes later. So small with the most beautiful cry! He weighed 6 pound 14 ounces and 19 inches.

Now: April 1st, 2009

(no children, or Colter were harmed in the taking of this picture)
Colter is such a cool kid! We had a great birthday party last Saturday with family. It was a Hot Dog BBQ, just what Colter wanted! It was the best 3-year old party he's ever had :)
Chango Bars
I LOVE recipes! Love them. I collect them, but only if they're good. My daughter must have this same gene; the other day at school when she was looking through a book she found a recipe and wrote it down! She wanted me to have it (and I'm sure she'd love it if we made them :))
If you make this yummy recipe, take a picture and send it to us, and when we get around to making them we'll post a picture for you all. Happy Treating!

(The recipe doesn't say to do this, but I would chop the nuts.)
